Cybercrime and fraud alert: please be aware that there is a significant risk in conveyancing of being exposed to cyber fraud in respect of e-mail interception and the security of bank account details/the sending of monies from those. We will never usually give out our bank account details or revised ones to you by e-mail – so never trust any request for funds to be sent from details given out to you in that way.

Please note that, during your transaction, if any money is to be sent to this firm, our bank account details will not change except in exceptional circumstances in which case we would undertake a 2-step authentication process with you first (but still not through email). Phone calls are another common way that criminals target conveyancing clients, so before giving out any information about your matter (especially bank or other payment details) to anyone calling saying they are from this firm, first ensure you ask sufficient details and take sufficient steps to be sure that the call really is from us – even if the call appears to come from our phone number, as numbers may be ‘spoofed’ to make it appear that they are genuine when they are not.

Please check the sender and other details carefully, and if you are in any doubt as to the authenticity of any e-mail you receive appearing to be from us, please call us and ask to speak to a Director, and only call using the firm’s telephone number provided to you by us at the outset of your matter, to ensure the suspicious email/call you have received was genuine – particularly ones relating to any money needing to be sent by you to us or any third party. We cannot warrant that any emails we send to you have not been intercepted, corrupted or altered before being sent to you, or equally, emails from you to us.  Montpellier Legal Ltd does not accept liability for any money paid to an incorrect or fraudulent account by you.
